“Without Freedom of Thought, there can be no such thing as Wisdom; and no such thing as public liberty, without Freedom of Speech.”
~ Benjamin Franklin
The primary aim of America is to be a free society; a haven allowing individuals from all over the world to possess the right to pursue their own goals for a better, successful, enjoyable life. America gives its people limitless opportunities to seek their ambitions and protects their individual, constitutional right to free speech. Outside the United States, however, the governments of several countries are controlling and corrupt.

On January 20, 1961, amid the Cold War, President John F. Kennedy delivered his inaugural address in Washington D.C. While being elected during a time of chaos, it was his responsibility to reassure and instill confidence in the American people. Kennedy was able to leave a massive impact on the people of America and every nation watching, whether their relations with America were cordial or not. Through the use of the pathos appeal, impactful elements such as anaphora and complex syntax, and a confident, compelling tone, Kennedy successfully ignites hope within his nation and offers respect, aid, and an invitation…
Today, January 18th, marks a day of celebration and remembrance for one of the most influential figures in American history, Martin Luther King Jr. Through his effective strategies of peaceful protesting and subtle yet highly impactful acts of resistance, King played a massive role in orchestrating a shift in the civil rights of the United States. What helped him to achieve such accomplishments were the ideals he held and instilled within his followers. Throughout his career, King advocated for coexistence, mutual respect, and affinity within the community, regardless of race or social status. …
In his foreword to Seasons of Life, a documentation of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge published in 2003, former President Jimmy Carter does a remarkable job of convincing his readers to preserve the beauty and natural resources of the reserve. He accomplishes this through the use of descriptive, vivid diction, a compelling yet composed tone, and several uses of the pathos and ethos appeals. Carter’s passionate manner stimulates emotions of concern and sympathy towards the reserve within his readers. His delivery is directed towards the American people, whose support is critical for the conservation of the reserve. …
Shatter Me, a piece featuring Lindsey Stirling and Lzzy Hale, is an incredible musical masterpiece. It portrays the struggle the majority of humanity face each day; the exhausting task of following the crowd and giving the impression that we are flawless beings in an attempt to be accepted and admired by society. We spend hours ensuring our next social media post promotes our perfection and conceals our weaknesses. We strive to impress others, make them idolize us, even envy us. Yet far beneath our delicate porcelain shell, we all yearn to break free.

“We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.” These are only a few of the words that helped to encourage the desperate people of Britain during the catastrophic events of World War II. One man was able to rally this entire nation and guide them to victory, despite the overwhelming odds and doubts stacked against them. …
How many hours of our lives have we spent worrying over the friends we have… or want? How many times have we second-guessed certain friendships, or completely blanked out when trying to create one? Often, we can underestimate the impact a few, seemingly harmless qualities can have on a relationship — even if it’s something as simple as an Instagram addiction or video game rage. Contrastingly, we may overlook the better traits of a person, while other times… we may not know what to look for at all!
We have all experienced the “Friend Quest” period in our lives before…
“Wish we could turn back time, to the good old days, when our momma sang us to sleep but now we’re stressed out.” These words from another one-of-a-kind composition by Twenty One Pilots very plainly describe a universal pain in a catchy tune you just can’t shake. Many times, the reason we can’t help singing along to certain songs is that — secretively — we completely relate to the lyrics. Constantly, people face the unwanted task of leaving behind their carefree, innocent childhoods, and taking on the challenges and burdens of reality.
Many of us were reassured as children. We…
One historical figure I admire is Joan of Arc, otherwise known as The Maid of Orleans. Deriving from humble beginnings as a peasant girl in medieval France, she became inspired by the belief that she had been chosen by God to lead France to victory against England. She claimed that she could hear voices and experience visions, which she believed were sent from God and the saints of the past. …
During these anxiety-filled years of adolescence, it seems as though our lives revolve solely around popularity and status. In the public eye and through social media, we constantly crave more followers, praise, and recognition. With this hunger for glorification, we try to surround ourselves with as many “friends” as possible. Having dozens upon dozens of people to talk to and being invited to every social event makes us feel accepted and admired by society. Maintaining this status can be entertaining for some, but ultimately it will lead to an exhausting, purposeless life.
Many work hard to achieve such a rank…
